Coach Sandro Palleschi receives Lifetime Contribution Award

Too often in life, we wait until it’s too late to show our appreciation for someone who has made significant contributions and sacrifices for the betterment of others. At the banquet, we made sure Coach Sandro knew just how much we love and appreciate the last 17 years he has given to the Belleville Spirits.

Sandro came to us from London and coached his first Spirits team in 2007 and has never looked back. He has become an absolute mainstay with the U12 age group where he fosters the love of the game and instills the fundamentals that players carry forward for the rest of their careers.

Sandro has been instrumental in the growth and development of the club. He has committed countless hours over the years, working on building popularity in basketball. Competing with hockey, soccer, dance, etc., Sandro found ways to get kids to the gym. Once he got them there, they were hooked. Coach always kept it fun and engaging which is so crucial for kids as more often than not, this was their first exposure to basketball. I might add, Sandro has never had a daughter in the program. He has been doing this for nothing more than the love of the game.

I particularly admire Sandros ability to look an 11 year old in the eye and say…. “get away from me. You are hands down the most annoying kid I’ve ever coached……” and the kids love it! Of course he’s kidding…..maybe??

Next time you are in a gym and Sandro walks in, watch all his current and former players rush to greet him.

Wins and losses aside, and there have been a lot more wins than losses….these are the qualities in a coach that make it an absolute privilege for any young lady to have the opportunity to play for Sandro.

Sandro’s teams show dramatic improvement every single year. I believe a big part of this success goes beyond the X’s and O’s of the game. I have witnessed firsthand for many years the joy his teams play with.

Sandro, on behalf of the Belleville Spirits, past and present players and coaches, thank you!
