A perfect weekend meant a gold medal for the Belleville Spirits Under 12 basketball team. Belleville swept their way through the London 86ers tournament outscoring Collingwood, London, Sarnia and North Toronto by a combined 155-80. That included Belleville’s 28-21 victory over North Toronto in the final. Makennin Roach and Kennedy Potts scored 8 points each.
The girls opened the tournament with a dominating 43-13 performance over Collingwood. The team was led by Olivia McFaul with 11 points followed by Emery Leveque with 10 points and Katelyn White dropping another 6 points.
They followed that up with a 43-30 win over a strong London Ramblers team. Emery Leveque led with 9 points followed by 7 points from Makennin Roach and another 6 points from Nyomi Bertrand.
In the 3rd game, Belleville continued their offensive attack with a 41-16 win over Sarnia. Kennedy Potts and Roach led with 9 points each, followed by 6 points from McFaul and 5 points from Leveque.
The Spirits roster includes Olivia McFaul, Avery McCoy, Makennin Roach, Katelyn White, Nyomi Bertrand, Reese Rivers, Kennedy Potts, Grace Crawford, Patyn Barnes, Rhysse Barrett, Emry Fisher and Emery Leveque. They are coached by Rachel Clarke and Sandro Palleeschi.
The Belleville Spirits are competing in Ontario Basketball League out of Toronto where they were 5-1 in the first half of the season. Belleville is ranked 14th out of 64 club teams in Ontario.
